Sparkling water Bato Springs resort is a perfect venue to unwind with nature, a place that has been spared by modernization, a natural home ground for butterflies, dragonflies and birds. It is one of those places in the South of Manila where you can bring your friends over and relish the natural beauty of Laguna. It is on the border of Laguna and Quezon, on the foot of Mount Banahaw, about 2-hour drive from Manila and 15 minutes away from San Pablo City proper.

waterfall Man made falls

Its main feature is its clear and sparkling river directly coming from Mount Banahaw, plus the trees which will make it very difficult to tell which time of the day it already is. The resort features two man made falls which are channeled into a large swimming pool and streams around it. The main pool is about 4 feet deep and has a groto/cave hidden with a stream of falling water, water flows from this to a second pool which is about 2 feet deep. This pool has two water falls around it where you can sit and have your back massaged by the flowing water.

bahay-kubo concrete-room

The resort offers rooms good for up to 8 persons; they have 2-storey traditional Filipino Nipa Huts and Concrete air-conditioned rooms. We opted for the Nipa Hut because it’s more spacious and we don’t need air-conditioning in this place because of the cool breeze and the shade offered by the abundant trees all over the resort. The first floor is a traditional “silong” with tables, chairs, dirty kitchen and a grill, where you can cook, eat, and get drunk. The second floor is where the bedroom is, our Nipa hut have 2 double-deck beds and one “papag”. There is also a small Terrace where you can have a good view of the river and the lush greenery.

our-food

The resort also have a large pavilion for different functions, this is also a fun place for your barkada to sing your favorite video-oke song for only 5pesos per song. If you didn’t bring enough food, drinks, or snacks they have a store, open only until 5PM.

Immediately after we arrive around 11PM, we cooked our food through the barbeque grill. Some of the “kubo” have this on the first floor, it would have been a great idea if we brought aluminum foil because the grill has rust on it! After lunch we all decided to take a swim, even if its noon time the water is so cold especially on the shallow pool. The cold water, the fresh air plus alcohol seems a good idea since you can’t really do nothing in this place but to eat, swim and get drunk.

Before sunset, they will fumigate the are to fend off mosquitoes and other insects that will feed on us while we’re sleeping. We stayed until 4am that night singing our lungs out, I think we’re the only overnight guest that day so they have no problem with the noise. The next day we ordered pancit for breakfast and take a final swim until we get back with our busy lives in Manila.
