Looking for a reasonable, accessible and a nice place to stay in Puerto Princesa can be a challenging task for first time travelers. If you scour around the web for recommendations, reviews and experiences, you would find several accommodations with competitive price, there’s Lola Itang, Balay Inato and Liberty Park Pension. Or you may want to stay in hotels like Hotel Fleuris, Asturias or Legend Hotel. We stayed in Puerto Pension Bed and Breakfast Inn. It is located along Malvar St in Puerto Princesa, 3-minute walk away from the market and about 15minutes travel from the airport. It advertises itself as being recommended in the Lonely Planet guide book.

Rooms have cable TV, air-conditioning, refrigerator and water heater. We can’t ask for more considering the price we paid. Room rates starts at 795 for a single bedroom up to 1,350 for a family room. Just enough to retire to after a day of traveling.

The restaurant is nicely located at the third floor, with the great panoramic view of Puerto Bay with large open windows that allow the nice cool breeze to blow in. For breakfast, we are served with egg, bread, fruits, coffee or hot chocolate and bread.
Puerto Pension also offer massage and tour packages for City, Honda Bay, and Underground river.

But if you’re traveling with a large group and would want to rent a van we recommend our tour guide Kuya Danny. Inform him where do you want to go and arrange in advance, since our tour spots were just limited.

Ayos naman dito pare, susunduin nila kayo sa airport, then yung tours, pa-book nalang kayo kay Kuya Danny (0910-6661767), mas mura yun kesa sa Puerto Pension kayo magpa book ng tour.

Hi Michelle, Puerto Pension offer tour packages for both underground river and honda bay, but its more expensive compared to directly contacting the tour guide/driver.
You may contact Kuya Danny directly at 0910-6661767 (tell him Jeff referred him to you)

Hi Arlice! Thank you for finding our blog helpful. Kuya Danny rents a van and normally he charges 1,500/day tour, except for the Underground River tour w/c is 2,500 because it is really far from the city. For the detailed expenses to help you on your budget please read on the links provided above by Jeff in answer to Michelle’s query. Thank you & enjoy Palawan!
God is great!

HI, is there any means of transportation aside from renting a van going to underground river and honda bay. I’m sure it will be cheaper to go there by public transpo, but I don’t know if it is accessible. I’d like to make extra tipid sice we also want to go to Dos Palmas. We are family of four. Thanks for your very helpful info and willingness to help. God bless!

hi jeff/edz,
i really find you blog very helpful. im planning to go to palawan this jan 2010 with my husband.i want it to be memorable for us and at the same time affordable. you recommend kuya danny, does he own the van? you mentioned 1,500/day tour, is it per pax or is it the van itself? if we will request na kami lang sa van, will there be an added cost? or its needed na mapuno talaga yung van for the tour.is it also applicable to the honda bay/underground river?jeff/edz, would you recommend the puerto pension rather than choosing hotels for accommodations? thank you so much in advance.

Hi Jeff,
I just happened to bump into your blog which is very helpful for our palawan trip this coming weekend. I already asked the service of Kuya Danny for our tour. But he refused to give us his rates. Sabi nia, basta magenjoy lang daw kami sa tour ok lng sa kanya kahit magkano. Given that, I don’t want to abuse his very good hearted approach. Gusto ko lang iclarify how much ang charge nia for the Underground River Tour. Kasi from your U.R. blog, you paid him 3500. But According to Edz in his above comment, he said 2500 lang. Which one should we offer him? Ok na ba yung 2500?
Really appreciate your response.
Thanks.

Hi Guys, thanks a lot for finding our blog helpful.
My apologies for the late reply, our internet connection has just been reconnected after Ondoy. To answer your queries:
@Meg
Kuya Danny doesn’t own the van, he just rents the car from a guy who operate sevaral vans/pickup. The rates posted here are for the whole van and not per person. The rates however change for each destination.
@Cris,
The weather in Palawan is just like in Manila, we had great deals when we were there courtesy of the uber helpful Kuya Danny.
@Marienne,
I think the van can sit 14 people, not comfortably though. Just give the driver a little extra. For beach front accommodation you may book your stay at Dos Palmas, Puerto Pension also operates a beach front resort along Sabang beach (near Underground river), but I forgot the name of the resort, and its a bit pricey.
@Nova,
Kuya Danny is such a nice person, to tell you frankly, the rates posted here are a steal for the service he had rendered for us. The rates are different between the destinations, ex. Underground river is quite far from the city, a coupe of hours on paved and unpaved roads so its more expensive, can’t recall if its 3500 or 2500 though.
Hope this helps.

Thanks to Jeff, Edz and those actively participated on this blog!
We had a wonderful vacation in Palawan last Feb. 1-3, 2010. Since my parents-in-law were with us, we got a van rented driven by Danny Abad. It was comfortable to have it for 3 days, we had enough time to see the sceneries and we enjoyed Itoy’s coffee twice.
We stayed in Puerto Pension, my parents-in-law were really satisfied on this accomodation. It’s clean and their room #5 is recently renovated, the place is really worth more than what they have paid for.
Day 1 -City Tour /van rental PhP 1,500 for 4 hours and the succeeding hour charged PhP300. Highlights: Badjao Seafront Restaurant, Crocodile Farm, Mitra’s Viewing Deck, Baker’s Hill, Itoy’s Coffee Haus, etc. Arranged tour cost PhP600/head.
Day 2-Sabang, Underground River /van rental PhP 3,500 fixed/whole day. Underground River Entrance Fee (paid and done in Puerto Princesa a day before) for local PhP150 and for foreigner PhP200. Boat transfer PhP700 and terminal fee PhP27. But if you are in small group, the tour cost PhP1,700/head (incl.hotel pick-up,transfer,lunch).
Sabang beach is best for swimming and with limited time at least we really enjoyed. We also indulged for delicious treat of seafoods in Daluyon Resort’s Restaurant.
Day 3-Honda Bay /van rental to & fro Wharp PhP1,500
Boat rental PhP1,300 (small) and PhP1,500 (big), respectively and terminal fee of PhP27. If you go on tour cost PhP 1,100/head. Highlights: Snake Islands for Fish Feeding and snorkeling in Pambato Coral Reef.
Highlights means what I liked most although we have been to usual tourist spots. We have been to Vietvill, ate but not really impressed and satisfied although paid very pricey food. For coffee lovers, Itoy’s coffee haus is a must and for T-shirt souvenirs buy in NCC, cheaper. It’s few blocks away from Puerto Pension and try strolling to know the place. Having a van rented was really a good choice, enough space and leg room and comfortable to travel since we are x-big in sizes and elderly friendly, Danny Abad was helpful to guide us, very punctual and thus, we really had a nice vacation.

My BF and I will be going to Palawan on December 4-6, 2010. Can you recommend a local travel agency that offers the cheapest Honda Bay and Underground river tour? I’ve read here that Puerto Pension tours are more expensive. I would have wanted to contact Kuya Danny but since it will just be me and my bf, it would cost more. Thanks in advance!

Hi! We are going to Palawan dis March 2010.
The only constraint is that there is only the
two of us traveling together.
If we are to join a tour with Kuya Danny,, can we share the total cost with other people or do we have to rent the whole van for ourselves???
Please enlighten me regarding this matter since it’s my first time going to Palawan and we want it to be memorable..but less cost if possible =P
Thanks!
