Kinabuchs and Tamilok

TamilokAfter spending a limited time during our Honda Bay trip, we rested in the hotel for few minutes then decided to have dinner at Kanila Butch or KinabuchsKinabuchs is one of the sought after restaurants in Puerto Princesa, Palawan. Serving mainly Filipino Cuisines from Sisig to Laing. If you’re traveling with a foreigner or a balikbayan and you want to satisfy your craving for a Filipino fare then dining in Kinabuchs is a treat.

It was described to me as a typical outdoor grill similar to Gerry’s Grill or Dencio’s. At the entrance, you would notice the pool table, bar and the crowd with few foreigners. The ordinary ambiance of an open air grill restaurant was made extra ordinary as I remembered to order their famous delicacy Tamilok it is actually kinilaw na wood worm.

TamilokIt has dark specs and as I size up the dish before me the smell of tamilok is trenchant. Imagine it as white long and skinny.  I am usually not choosy of the foods to eat but I am very particular of the smell and the appearance.

It was a fun dinner as we feast on the tamilok served in our table as if it we ordered a sweet desert.  I was able to taste it but I could not swallow it, I tried not to chew it, oh please do not ever chew it. It’s slimy. As if I am part of Fear Factor. Everyone ate except me and mom. I gave up. I wasn’t brave at all. According to Jeff the taste was like oyster though it feels like it would stick to his esophagus, it is not ideal to eat with rice but it’s good with a bottle of beer. Hey it’s actually a pulutan! It’s actually a mollusk found inside rotting mangroves.

It has been a long day and was just made perfect of the tamilok experience.

It doesn’t look edible to me… Gwrk! Lolz

That’s one exotic food there..
I’m no fan of worms. I even have phobia.

But it’s nice you enjoyed it.

My girlfriend and i tried the tamilok with a couple we met in our trip to the underwater cave.Kinabuch’s offers it in their menu.We were given heads up that this mollusk is a very potent aphrodisiac.

Lo and behold, my manhood was challenged for one week.Funny, the following day on our way back to Manila, i was just watching a CNN segment with a good looking anchor woman and i have to put my laptop on top of my lap for the rest of the flight. It felt like i was 15 years old again.
On my way back to San Francisco, after a week , i still have some manly sporadic after effects…kinda scary and fun.

[...] Most tourists would easily think that the tamilok is common food stuff among the people of Palawan. Surprisingly, many residents don’t eat tamilok; these are often consumed by fishermen, farmers, and those living near mangroves. However, restaurants such as Kinabuch serve tamilok. The food blog Eat and Run has a story about Kinabuch’s tamilok serving. [...]

Yep, it takes a lot of courage to eat Tamilok! I too was tempted to say no to trying this, but heck I didn’t want to pass up the chance to experience something new. So I slurped and chewed tamilok, then quickly gulped it down when I felt like gagging. It wasn’t exactly a pleasant experience but I’m glad I tried it!

hi! i will be arriving in PPS on nov. 24 @ 12:30pm with my bf and will be departing to cebu on nov. 26 at 12:40pm. is it doable to accomplish the honda bay on a half day time on our 1st day? then underground river on the 2nd day. and, city tour on the 3rd day? is it more wiser if we’ll go to underground river by ourselves since there’s only 2 of us? your reply will be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Nonetheless there is actually 1 issue I am not too cozy with so while I try to reconcile that with the central idea of the position, let me observe exactly what all the rest of your subscribers have to point out.Nicely done.
