Mayon Volcano and the Cagsawa Ruins

We didn’t have a definite plan of going to Albay after the typhoon Reming ravaged the province. But since, it was 10 years ago when we have visited Legaspi City and we were plunging to boredom and staring at nothingness I asserted to visit my mom’s relatives, and of course to check out Mayon Volcano- again.

I am looking forward to savor the journey more than when I went there few years back. I have played back the scenes in my vivid childhood memories over and over, but to my surprise I didn’t expect that the beautiful scenes will be refreshed in my memory as unlikely as I could ever imagine.

When we first entered the place, there was a boy who was handing me a postcard of the Cagsawa Ruins. The place’s totally devastated. We were welcomed by a tall piled up rocks and brown running water right into our feet. Someone told us that the rocks were washed out and clashed from the mountain which ate up trees, homes and sad but true families. :(

As we walk along the way and followed few people, we were headed to the Entrance to Cagsawa Ruins (P10.00 per head). I welcomed the place once again with a smile; I was surprised that the place overcame the typhoon and it was an awesome thing. The place was seemingly recovering and continuously praying for electricity, water systems, homes, families, lives, and hearts to be fully RESTORED. It was another chapter of test for the Bicolanos, a challenge to stand up under nature’s trial.

But then again, life has to continue. For others, it is another chance, a second life. The people of Albay have been very strong. You can see smiles but more importantly behind those smiles they allow you to personally feel their unsaid emotions.

Life goes on. Aside from taking pictures of the perfect coned Mayon Volcano you may see shops inside the Cagsawa Ruins. You may find very affordable native bags and souvenirs. I was able to buy 12 sets of different bags (4 for Php100). According to my Aunt, you can buy bags in Albay cheaper than Naga Market, because some bags that are being marketed in Naga were hand-made in Albay. So then, it signals a go to buy bags for a cheaper price and help the people of Albay recover somehow financially.

I pray that the people and the entire region would recover the soonest time. I’m bequeathing to witness the place once again and take a perfect picture in my mind and on prints.

there’s another good “Halo Halo” store that you could visit there…unfortunately, i cant remember the name…However, that Halo – Halo store is always open. It is so famous that even if it’s stormy season (that happens in their area most of the time), a lot of customers are eating there. It doesnt have ingredients or so-called “sahog” like the ordinary halo-halo but you’ll definitely love it esp. if you’re munching big barquillos… As soon as i remember the outlet’s name, i’ll keep you guys posted… Ciao!
