Magnificent Golden Sunset

golden-sunset Approximately two-and-a-half hours drive from south of Metro Manila is Calatagan, Batangas- where the Paradise of the beauty guru, TV host, product endorser, salon tycoon and “mother” of all- Ricky Reyes is found. Lured with the glorious sunset of the haven Mother Ricky bought the 8-hectare property and named it after one of its unique features-Golden Sunset.

Ricky’s love and passion for the beauty of nature made a paradise of his dream a reality. Initially catered to be a grand vacation place exclusively to his loved ones, families and friends, now it’s even more. It is a seaside resort, an inn and spa all in one place. Golden Sunset’s charming scenery yields an awesome view of the South China Sea. Apparently, Golden Sunset is not a beach resort. It has 4 big swimming pools with 2 private jacuzzis. Jeff told me that it is better and safer to swim in the pool which made me a bit disappointed. At the entrance pavillon hall, which is likewise the reception area is a roomy cottage with comfy lounge chairs. This is where we were welcomed with friendly and courteous people with their native drink topped with beautiful handmade leis designed creatively with beads, shells and a full size flower. Sweet! :) Jeff and I were the only one allowed to take a look at the rooms for our group, and the next attraction to my amusement is the vibrant mini-jeepney. A friendly driver toured us around to check out the resort’s casitas. A sum of 75 air-conditioned family casitas which could accommodate up to 142 overnight guests. These casitas are classified into Standard, Deluxe Room w/loft, Superior De Luxe, Garden Cove, Junior Suite, Two-Bedroom Family Suite and Dormitory . Meanwhile, the Dormitory can accommodate up to 42 guests. We have observed that some casitas are huge enough for the whole family and there are few which have separate attics, ideal if you are traveling with your driver or household help.

cottage cottages

We had a difficult time selecting between the Superior de Luxe and the Garden Cove, because money-wise both got a little difference for a group of 2-6. We ended up staying at the Garden Cove, which has 10 cottages and 2 jacuzzis. The jacuzzis are for the exclusive use of Garden Cove and Junior Suite guests only. Jeff chose to stay at the Garden Cove because it offered privacy to guests. It was a bit galling that there were foreigners making unnecessary noise that night and my friends who stayed at the attic had a hard time catching some Zs.

I like the interior design of our casita, amazing that the entire resort was touched by no architect or interior designer but solely- Mother Ricky Reyes.

Golden Sunset offers easy respite from the the bustling and fast-paced urban life. Guests will surely enjoy arrays of world-class amenities. Their convention halls can handle big and small meetings, and is ideal for workshops and company seminars.

EatandRun’s list for improvement:

  • Have a Room Service.
  • Provide telephone access.
  • Cable television.
  • Increase the water pressure.
  • The restaurant ran out of menu on the list but they do have a policy of not being able to bring in food/drinks.

For my surpise and amusement, Edz took me to Batangas as part of “places Joyce needs to see in the PHILS” after coming home from Chicago. Along with Jeff and two other friends, we ventured to Batangas and ended up at Golden Sunset! It was indeed a very breathtaking place. The ambience, the scenery, the food, and bunch of other things are a must see. Like they said, “You just have to be there!” So, if you happen to be in Batangas, make sure to check-out Golden Sunset.

Well, I’m just confused if it is a beach resort how come I don’t see the beachfront when it was televised? All I keep seeing is the huge pool.

Then, last summer I wanted to check out the place for our annual company outing but Golden Sunset will charge me for the entrance. Sheesh… I will travel for 2 hours just for an occular inspection, not to mention that I will also need to shell out for gasoline the least they could do is accommodate those who will conduct an occular inpection.

Hi Sandz,

Yes, its a beach resort. But they don’t allow the guests to swim in the beach. Its not favorable to swim in the area after all, most of it are vast shallow water with lots of starfish and other marine life.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the reply. I thought so. We’ll I’d rather go to Laiya, Batangas then, where you can really enjoy the beach.

Yes, although its a lot further and you have to go through 4KM of rough roads. Its almost similar to White beach, Puerto Galera only cleaner, a lot more quiet and more expensive :)

We went to Golden Sunset Beach and Resort last April 19 to 20, 2008….and luckily weve met Mother Ricky Reyes there, lunch time of April 19 at Cocina de Oro during the Balsa Cultural Presentation….the resort it self is shall I say, treasure of philippine culture….the filipino culture is preserve….from the ethnic dances to the cultural presentations…to the artifacts and collections of 15th century jars and the likes…which is very rare to see in other resorts…that is why I want to salute Mother Ricky for that….you will not feel bored during your stay….at the resort especially during Saturday because of the whole day shows….but there are some problems I want to raise inside the resort…FIRST….the parking area….the area is not covered and less secure….no driver’s area or place where the drivers can relax and watch something while waiting for their bosses….not secure because me personally…my colored cap “takip ng pito” sa gulong was ,lost….so if there is good security, then may be this was not lost….SECONDLY, the water from faucet is dirty….and taste bad if someone is brushing his/her teeth…THIRD the food is very expensive….

Hi Meg! Thank you for your visiting EatAndRun! :) I understand that it’s quite hard to plan on this soaking rainy season. I suggest that you consult your husband first if he feels like going to the beach or enjoy the “art of doing nothing” together. Then, you can browse EatAndRun for some places. I have a personal weekend getaway favorite though, as you would notice in my posts. Tagaytay that is. Plus you may want to squeeze in a bit of Batangas in your 3-day trip. Please update us if you have some more queries.

Thank you and God bless!

I just want to let you know that we visited Paradizoo last 18 Oct but we were very disappointed because the staff did not honor the rates shown on their website. We were a group of 10 plus kids. They want us to buy Php199 package instead of the P99 since it is a weekend. They said that the Php99 is only applicable on weekdays. But that is not the info shown in the website. There is no such distinction that weekend rate is different from weekdays. They are saying the Php 199 will entitle us to visit Residence Inn but we don’t want to go to Residence Inn. I told them to ask any of their superior and see if our request can be granted but the staff just insisted on the Php 199.

Anyway, we ended up not visiting your farm. It is just so disheartening, especially for the kids who woke up early and was expecting a good time with the animals.
