Puerto-Pension-08Looking for a reasonable, accessible and a nice place to stay in Puerto Princesa can be a challenging task for first time travelers. If you scour around the web for recommendations, reviews and experiences, you would find several accommodations with competitive price, there’s Lola Itang, Balay Inato and Liberty Park Pension. Or you may want to stay in hotels like Hotel Fleuris, Asturias or Legend Hotel. We stayed in Puerto Pension Bed and Breakfast Inn. It is located along Malvar St in Puerto Princesa, 3-minute walk away from the market and about 15minutes travel from the airport. It advertises itself as being recommended in the Lonely Planet guide book. Read the rest of this entry »

Sabang Beach A special surprise travel to puerto princesa for us since it was my parents’ Silver Wedding Anniversary. A blend of excitement and queasy feelings for a sweet-trip-treat for my family. Another gainsay to a sweet dad who has a colleague in Puerto Princesa to help him do all the preparations for the trip. Ecstatic. Off we go to Puerto Princesa!

Our BoatWe experienced interacting with the Butanding inhabiting the quiet town in Donsol, Sorsogon, the so-called famous “Gentle Giants”.  The whale sharks can group up to 40 feet in length, considered as the largest fish on the planet. In search of warmer waters, the whale sharks migrate to the waters of Donsol during the months of December to May to feed on tiny plankton which flourish on this kind of waters (they don’t feed on flesh so, they are perfectly safe, I wonder why they are called sharks anyway). Over the years, and with the help of WWF, the small fishing town has brought millions of pesos through Eco tourism. Read the rest of this entry »

Mayon SunsetProbably the most popular tourist attraction in the Bicol region is the Mayon Volcano, known for its “Perfect” conical shape, its the landmark of the province of Albay. Next to it is Ligñon Hill (pronounced as lin-yon) another popular land form, said to have the best view of Mayon (unless you’re a hardcore landscape photographer), situated at the town of Daraga. It has a panoramic view of the Mt. Mayon, the town of Daraga and Legazpi City. Read the rest of this entry »

Banapple Pies and CheesecakesBanapple is one of the hottest restaurant in the Katipunan area, creating a buzz with their great food and desserts. I’ve heard nothing but good adjectives to describe their food from friends and office mates, so we decided to check it out. The tiny restaurant can hold approximately up to around 20 persons and 4 cars can park in front. Due to the popularity and the size of the place it is often unavoidable to wait to be seated and leave your car along Katipunan Ave., specially during dinner time.

Banapple is a friendly bakery cafe that serves freshly-baked pies, cheesecakes and desserts, as well as good food and coffee.

sonyas-garden-13It has been a year since we have shared to you our first ever experience in our stay at Sonya’s Secret Garden. After traveling around the city of Tagaytay visiting ParadiZoo, Jeff and I felt that we need to catch up and balance (at least a little) our diet after consuming a full plate of the yummy baby back ribs at Hawaiian Barbecue. Our last stop is to treat ourselves with garden fresh salad.

A camelParadizoo is a 10-hectare theme farm and zoo, located in Mendez, Cavite – a few minutes drive from Tagaytay City proper. It is a self-sustained farm, as the animals are fed with the grass and plants grown within the area. Honestly, I think its more of a farm than a zoo since most of the animals are for livestock, grow vegetables, produces honey etc. Paradizoo holds an agricultural festival with activities that includes, greyhound racing, cockfighting, animal auction, educational tours, seminars on farming, gardening, and fishing.

Bag-of-beans-2Bag of Beans started out as an affection for coffee, they now offer mouth-watering treats of freshly baked breads, pies and meals. Made famous for their serving of the world’s most expensive coffee – the Alamid Coffee. Made from the droppings of the Philippine Civet, yes droppings! The nocturnal animal uses its instinct to pick the sweetest, ripest and simply the best coffee cherries to ingest – the reason why this coffee is arguably the best, make sense, isn’t it? The droppings are then picked early in the morning by gatherers.
