Banapple: Pies and Cheesecakes

Banapple Pies and CheesecakesBanapple is one of the hottest restaurant in the Katipunan area, creating a buzz with their great food and desserts. I’ve heard nothing but good adjectives to describe their food from friends and office mates, so we decided to check it out. The tiny restaurant can hold approximately up to around 20 persons and 4 cars can park in front. Due to the popularity and the size of the place it is often unavoidable to wait to be seated and leave your car along Katipunan Ave., specially during dinner time.

Banapple is a friendly bakery cafe that serves freshly-baked pies, cheesecakes and desserts, as well as good food and coffee.

Banana + Apple = Banapple

Banapple got its name from their two best sellers Banoffi Pie, and Apple Caramel Crumble. Since the restaurant is small, you get this warm and close feel its like you’re in a party you see everyone get together and share great food.

Pies-6IMGP2245

You’re mouth will surely water as you take a look on their cake and pie selections.

Once seated, you have to order your food in the counter ala fast food and minutes later your food will be served.

Pies-2

We’re not too much into sweets and its dinner time so we chose their rice meals instead.

Herbed_Chicken_Rolls_with_Basil_Cream_Sauce-2

Pan-fried Porkloin with Herb Mushroom Gravy – (145php) juicy pork loin steak seasoned with special herbs, pan-fried in olive oil, and smothered in a thick mushroom and herb gravy; served with glazed carrots.

Salpicao_Rafael

Salpicao Rafael (my personal favorite) – (150php) tender cubes of rib-eye steak and sliced mushrooms, perfectly seasoned and smothered in garlic pieces and special brown sauce; served with buttered carrots.

Banoffee_Pie

Of course their famous Banoffee Pie – from the words “banana” and “toffee“, its a great dessert but its too sweet for my taste.

I was surprised that this little place offer such a wide variety of food to choose from, they offer pastas, sandwiches, entrees, savory pies, pancakes, pies and cheesecakes. They also serve coffee and smoothies!

It is surely be one of those places that will come to mind when I’m around the area with an empty stomach :) .

I really went out of my way to try this… I bought cake slices for take out and I uber loved Banoffee Pie, Honeylovin’ Crunch Cake and Myster-Reese’s Wicked Pie– heavenly!! :) The Fudgymudgymud Pie was too sweet though (hard to finish a slice) and the muffin was dry. Will definitely go back to try more cakes and the meals as well.

Hope they open up a branch in Makati or Fort area, please?? :)

Good pm. I have been one of your loyal customers at your Katipunan branches over the years . With the good food and delicious cakes you serve, waiting for several minutes for both our table and for the parking space have never been an issue. But with my experience a few hours ago, I do feel that there is a part of your service that you should look into ……. that is the restroom.

I must admit that the small space of the old Katipunan branch forced you to have only 1 restroom for female and 1 restroom for male. But I strongly suggest that you find a way to create a restroom for your employees so that they will not compete with the customers.

My staff and I were waiting for our turn to use the restroom . Your kitchen staff – Jinky was already inside doing her thing . At first , we were patiently waiting but as your other staff saw us standing by the door for several minutes , they took turns at knocking at the restroom door , reminding Jinky that the queue was already getting longer.

I would understand that the your staff is also human who needs to answer to the call of nature. However, how she reacted was unacceptable. She commented twice ……” E natatae ako …..anong magagawa ko “. I will not be offended if she had said it this way – ” Pasensya na lang po, medyo masama po ang tyan ko, malapit na po akong lumabas ” Courtesy is evident and that the person acknowledged the fact that the restroom was created to service first the customers and secondly the employees. Unfortunately, the way she delivered was that I, being the customer, should wait for her. She has the right to take her time without considering the concern of even that of the customers.

Jinky decided to leave that cubicle because of the successive reminders made by your other staff who were already apologizing . When she went out, she even tried to close the main restroom door where I was standing just in front of it . She was aware there were people waiting for her, she should have looked around and not just closing the door — showing that she owns the restroom.

I know that this issue is quite trivial but in much we could not teach everyone the right manners , you can negate issues like this if you can make a room exclusively for them.

I brought a friend yesterday at your Katipunan branch. I was kind of full so I left much food for take out. I requested the attendant if she could give me take out bag or something so I can pack my food and also for my friend’s leftover too. She said that she would do it so she took both plates. She gave our take out bag. When i reached home, I found that she gave me the wrong bag. I had more since i hardly ate and what i brought home was my friend’s leftover!

Please come up with a better system of packing leftovers. In the US, most often than not, attendant would give the styropor package so the customers can just pack it by themselves.

Thanks. Hoping you can improve on your procedure on this.

I’ve been a fan of your restaurant ever since it opened, the fact that I live near by and I studied in a nearby school, I go there a lot.

I had brunch there and I would say that today was the only bad experience that I had.
When I was ordering Tocilog, I said to the lady “Tocilog”, and she just gave me a blank stare. I called her attention twice and then she finally replied, “alin po doon? Tocino”. Then I said, “yes, yun ang order ko.” Then aside from that I ordered ribs and choco peanut butter pancakes. As the food came, I wondered why the Tocilog took so long. So, I asked her if they were able to punch it in, and she said no, she thought I was just inquiring about it. And I was suprised because I mentioned it 4 times to her.
Then I gave her my card again, and she said “sorry minimum of 300 for credit card”. I told her, that it shouldn’t be my problem because I ordered something worth 450, she just wasn’t paying attention. So after that, she swiped my card anyway.

As I mentioned, I ordered pancakes as well. It was my first time and I found it really good, one of the best in the metro. However, when we finished the small teacup of syrup on one pancake, I asked for another. It took her awhile to come back and tell me that you were out of syrup (at 11 in the morning). So, halfway through my pancakes, it didn’t feel good eating it anymore because there was no syrup. When, the other table ordered pancakes, that’s the time they bought syrup lang.

Lastly, for my friend’s order of spare ribs, when she was on her 2nd piece, she spit it out because the meat had a foul smell. It was “maanta”, and she’s the type who’s really particular with meat because she’s a chef as well. The supervisor was nice enough to change 1 piece of the ribs, we even made her smell it.

I still visited the restaurant after, and I was still disappointed.
So, my friend and I ordered Choco peanut butter pancakes, Penne pasta, and Chicken breast Parmigiano. My friend was halfway through her pasta already, and I was still waiting for my Chicken. I ordered at 11:00, and at 11:30, I noticed that my food was taking way too long and I’ve ordered that before, it used to be really quick. I asked the lady to follow it up, and she was a bit stunned. Apparently, Joan punched it in, made me pay for it but did not order it. Joan did not even apologize, I just heard their conversation, she told the girl that we didn’t order, and the other girl told her that she punched it in.

The waitress approached me and told me that they would just “rush” my order, which I told her to cancel… because I did not have time to wait anymore, and I didn’t want to eat a dish that was “RUSHED”. They gave me the refund, and not even a word of apology.

Another thing, while we were eating, a cockroach all of a sudden crawled on our table. I called the attention of the waitress (Joan) and whispered “may ipis”. She just told the other waitress, and they both continued with their work. I called her attention again and that’s when the other waitress came by, slowly, and got the cockroach.

They have GREAT food and an awful staff.

i agree… super yummy ng food but i think the staff’s training needs a little reinforcement. I visited their branch in Makati weeks ago, hindi accommodating un iba staff. It was my first time kaya excited ako, kaso ung ibang crew nakasimangot/matamlay at mejo mabagal :D there’s a room for improvement tho. i still love your cakes! :D

To Disappointed:

I can’t believe after your chef friend ate the “maanta” and foul smelling spare ribs, probably rotten (as experienced by other customers too, check their fb wall page). You still believe they have great food. It’s rotten, for C*7%$+ sake!!!!

To Disappointed:

Here’s what I got from their fb wall:

From Shermagne Cruz-MacDuff:

Just went to your Ayala Triangle branch and had the most hideous hickory ribs ever. It was rotten. And as I asked for a written acknowledgement of the incident in case all of us would have food poisoning, the President didn’t allow the manager in charge to give me the letter. You better make sure that there’s quality control in all your branches. My 3 year old nephew ate that rotten piece of pork.
